How Bad Will Holiday Shopping Traffic Be in Los Angeles?

The holiday shopping season is upon us. While many media outlets are reporting that more shoppers will resort to online purchases in 2016 we all know that shopping malls and shopping destinations are going to be pack every single weekend from now until Christmas. With this being the case, just how bad is holiday traffic in Los Angeles going to be?

It seems that every single year traffic gets worse. Whether you are going to Beverly Center, The Grove or Hollywood and Highland, you are going to find it takes close to an hour to get in and out of these locations; if you are lucky. If you happen to go on a Saturday late in December you might not be able to find a parking spot at all.

Fortunately, Google has made shopping much easier than it was in the past. You can use Google Maps or Waze to get a good indication of traffic in any specific area of Los Angeles. If you find that your only shopping opportunities are Saturday mornings, you will likely find traffic at every single shopping location. Instead of fighting these crowds, it might be best to try to get out of work early on a Thursday or Friday and do some of your shopping then.

It is also a good idea to get all of your shopping done at one time. While this might be stressful, it will be better for you in the long run. If you have to fight traffic several times over the course of a three week period, it might drive you crazy. It is also a wise decision to shop outside of LA. If you are visiting friends or family in Fresno or Ontario, try to get some shopping done in these locations. Many of the same stores you shop at in LA will have locations in some of the smaller cities on the outskirts of town. The further you travel, the smaller the crowds will be.

Another interesting tool to use is Snapchat. Snapchat now offers a way for those shopping to share their experience with a video story. On the video story, you can add a filter to show that you are shopping. If you see some of your friends out and about and they are sharing stories of very busy mall and shopping locations, it might be best to stay in bed that day. You don’t want to fight a battle that you know you cannot win.
